Have you ever found yourself faced with a decision and all you can do is ruminate over whether to say “yes” or “no” or if you should stay or go? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Let it go, let it go. I am one with the wind and sky. Let it go, let it go. You’ll never see me cry. Here I stand, and here I’ll stay. Let the storm rage on. The cold never bothered me anyway.” ~Elsa (Frozen)
Show Notes:
1. There is likely more at play and involved when you have difficulty making a decision.
Your story or narrative communicates a lot about the reason(s) you may find yourself stuck in the decision making process
Is 43:1; I King 18:21; Rom 14:15; James 1:6
2. Pay attention to your feelings~ what is going on in your body and what your emotions are as you try to make a decision. Paying attention to the context or path you are on and headed toward could actually provide some clues as to the direction you may need to take.
Prov 2:2-6; Prov 26:11; Prov 17:10
3. Strategic Approach:
a. Create a variety of lists during your decision making process:
- create a list of pros and cons
- create a list the costs and benefits
- create a list of risks and rewards
b. Title the Picture~ listen to what your body is trying to communicate to you with each ‘snapshot’ in the decision making process. Make a list of words that describes each decision. Choose the most prominent word.
c. Look at the Narrative~ your story, your history
Rom 12:2
Questions to ask yourself~
• What level of control do you require to make a decision?
• What are your choices in the decision-making process?
• Will you choose to shut down and jump on the hamster wheel?
• What is your typical behavior as it regards making decisions? What do you do/not do? What are your typical patterns?
4. There are 2 types of Personality types when it comes to decision making:
- either you remain in a waiting stance to make a decision, which can lead to missed opportunities
- or you run out ahead too quickly; it is usually too late to correct your course when you realize this has happened
In which area do you need to grow~ in the waiting or in the moving forward?
Prov 18:13; Prov 19:2; Prov 21:5
5. Risk~ what is the role of risk taking in your life? Is it for growth or for dreaming for the future?
Joshua 1:9
6. Your desire to make the perfect decision can get in the way of growth. Rumination comes on board with decision making when you try to make the perfect decision. Put perfection into it’s fairy tale place and step out to live fully, knowing that no decision is inherently right or wrong.
In Conclusion~
Knowing that the decision making process isn’t wasted for God’s glory will permit you to release it, enter into, enjoy, and reap the benefits of the risks and rewards.
